COMING AROUND AGAIN.
Bank Holiday Monday
29th August 2011-
The Camels are Coming!!!

Not until the end of August it’s true and there’s much to do
between now and then. Berkeley Show is very much a Show
made by the participation of local people.
Whilst we draw competitors and visitors from a large area it is the
input from people living in the immediate area which makes the
Show what it is. It enables us to keep a very traditional approach
and a very varied selection of attractions. Of course there are lots of
horses. As well as the very well supported classes for Hunters and
Showjumping and the very elegant Private Driving turnouts. We
have classes in the pony section which should suit everyone
Working Hunter Pony, In-hands plus much more such as the ‘most
suitable child’s pony’. This year for the first time we have a section
for Pure & part bred Arabs.

HAVE A LOOK AT OUR
SCHEDULE.

The Gymkhana will again run popular events for all including Unaffiliated and Clear Round
jumping.
The Cattle and Sheep entries have held up well in recent years with the introduction last year
of Hereford classes a great success. Not only are these classes a great showcase for our local
farmers but hugely popular with visitors to the Show. The Rare Breeds section ‘tops up’ the
variety of animals on display with hens & ducks, goats and pigs.
On the subject of animals let’s not forget the dogs with the Companion Dog Show classes
extended this year.
Entries taken on the day.
In addition to the competitive classes we have:
Joseph’s Amazing Camels – playing
Polo
Tricky Tykes Terrier Racing
Vintage Machinery
Heavy Horses
Berkeley Riding Club Mounted Quadrille
Funfair
Bungee Trampolines
Bouncy Castle & Rodeo Bull
Archery
Dancing & Music in the Entertainments Area
Inc Sharpness Silver Band
Dr Jazz
King Edmund’s School Gymnasts
Line Dancing

Young Farmers
The Trade Stands, Craft Marquee, Foodhall and Farmers Market areas will be packed with a
huge variety of goods on offer, ranging from handbags to tractors, bulbs to generators. Many
of these traders serve our community throughout the year and this is a chance to display their
trade and also chat with customers.
Amongst the classes and different sections there is something for everyone, and something
for everyone to have a go at. Have you ever thought, for instance, of the Horticulture and
Crafts section competitions run by Richard and Kara King from Lower Stone. Here there is
always a variety of classes to enter and a section for children – something to do in the
summer holidays maybe.
All schedules are available from the Show Office on 01453 543335 or download.
If none of the competitive elements take your fancy then come along for a good day out. We
aim to provide something for everyone and for all ages..
Add to this mix food and drink and good company and the 110th Show will be one to
remember.

Enclosure facilities.
Camel Polo is played in Mongolia, Rajasthan, Dubai and now for the first time in Europe we
can offer the excitement and glamour of Polo with the novelty of Camels.
Teams of two camels Red v Blue with players
with extra long sticks and a bigger ball will
battle it out in the arena. There will be a
commentary designed to bring out the humour
and the skill of the game, and the referee on the
pitch will be keeping the ball and the camels
going in the right direction. In between the two
ten minutes chukkas, the crowd will be invited
into the arena to stamp in the divots just like a
real Polo match. There will be a short cup
giving ceremony at the end of the match for the winning team.
